JftOM OUR OWN COKRE£POKDEKT, Last Monday night the Tinkers people turned tut inlorce to welcome home their contributions to the South Africa contintent 4 . The welcome took the form of a social, to which lro pers Sutherland and Holden were invited, and presentations were made dming the course of the evening. Mr Will Laidlaw formally welcomed the contingenteis home, and on behalf of th» Tinkeis folk piesented them each with a gold Maltese Cross, inscribed. Mr Muipby also Bpoke in words of welcome. The Iroopers shortly replied in speeches which were full of the refrain— " i here's do place like home." The hall had been beautifully decorated by the ladies, and dance music was provided by Mr Frank M'Lean. MrThompson, for Mrs Sheppard, had charge of the catering department. and succeeded in satisfying everybody. Songs were sung by Mits Hpft'oian and Messrs Ihompson, Williams and Austin, and MrThompson danced a hornpipe in costume.
