(FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Dunedin, November 18. At the Land Board, W. Laidlaw, Earnscleugh; applied to surrender four pastoral licenses. It was resolved that the Government be recommended to accept the same, the lessee from his circumstances, being unable to continue in occupation, Thomas Johnston was granted a lease in per*, petuity at Cromwell, —Peter Flannery was allowed to exchange his deterred payment lease fora lease in perp'etuity at PoolVmro.— Feter Flannery, jon., was allowed to liaoafei his lease at Pool bum to p eter F lannery, sen,— I a\id Hutchison and Alexander Kinney up* litd to surrender runs at Tiger Hill, the Government to be leccmraenutci to -Heipr same; —-Graven Paget was allowed to surrender bis lease in the Frasei district, the land being taken for mining purposes The Education Board resolved not to grant any more applications jor subsidies for gymnasiums during the present financial year. Victoria’s yield of gold for nine months was f>7B,ooC> ounces. The City Council last; night received a letter asking if the Council would contribute anything towards providing the governor’s residence. It was stated that the Governor would stay here until June if ac commodation could be got.
A little before 5 o r clock tins after noon the eastern turret of the Dunedin Hospital by some unaccountable means got on fire. The brigade was sopa on the spot and extinguished it. The man Clements in the hospital is progressing favorably towards recovery, and is not depressed in spirits. Pev. F W Isitt recently made serious charges, against the senior police officer at Orange, Sydney, charging him with chronic drunken* i but after inquiry the charges were proved to be tor ally' untrne. The Akaroa mail office was des stroysd by fire yesterday, every Hung being lost. The Premier says- there is no hope of getting (he .Dunedin Savings Bank Bill through this session. Sergeant Slattery, iu charge of the police at Hawera died yesterdays. He was 35 years in the service, mostly iu the South JbUvutl
