The Cromwell Agricultural show takes place to«day. . Mr K. Pretsch has been elected mayor of Cromwell unopposed. The Hon, J. G. Ward is a candidate fer.' the Mayoralty of the Bluff. Mr Jab, Kelmah h&a been elected Mayor of Alexandra unopposed. The quarterly meeting of the Tuapeka Licensing Committee has been adjourned from the 6th to .the l4th December. Mr R. S. Gilkison will sell at Cromwell to-morrow afternoon, one-twelfth share in the Alpine dredge, Lowburn (McLay and party). The next English and European mail via San Francisuo will close at the local office on Monday, November 22nd, at 2 p.m. * The Vincent County Council meet at Clyde next Wednesday. The annual election for chairman, dealing with the maintenance contracts and other impot tant matters will be dealt with at this meeting. Mb T. P. Beck was installed last Tuesi day evening as W.M. of the Alexandra Masonic Lodge. Mr McMecking, cf Alexandra, is the Dunstan Lodge W.M. for this year, and Mr W. Bell the Cromwell W.M. The Napier School Committee proposes to give the children an extra week's leave at miosummer, and shorten the midwinter vacation, as it is found that they work better in. the cool weather than during the hot months. The dust storms appear to be very prevalent in Alexandra lately. Our correspondent suggests that the Council take steps and try and get some marram grass planted to try and prevent what is becoming a very great nuisance to everyone. Attention is drawn to the Central Otago Cycle Exchange adveitisement. This firm has secured tne agency of the popular Rambler cycles, and are prepared to supply ladies and gents machines at the moderate price of L 22 10s. Mr A. Murray inserts an advertisement in this issue with reference to second hand bicycles, and a» all his machines aie in hist class repair, it would be worth while for intending purchasers to obtain full particulars from him before going elsewhere for a machine. Mr R. S. Gilkison reports having held a very satisfactory sale of pipes and plant in connection with the Molyueux Hydraulic Company, on the ground last Saturday. Mr Kelman was the principal purchaser, and Mr T, Allan and Messrs Gariley were also purchasers. The sale realised about LU4. <■ The Rev. JVC. Small will preach at St. Andrew’s Church, Cromwell, on Sunday morning next, when there will be a celebration of the Holy Communion ; and in St. Michael’s Church, Clyde, in the evening. Mr Small will be glad _if persons having children which they desire to have.baptized would bring them to either of the Sunday services, or give him notice, and he will arrange a time for their baptism, A supplemental bazaar, in aid of the Blacks Prcsbyterrian Church, was held at Ophir on FridayV i2tfa iust„ and was opened by the Rev, James C. Gellie. 8.A,. He spoke in ehcouragingc.terms of the future of the Church, and highly commended the young people for turning oat fo well to the services. He thanked the lanies tor iheir labour of love in connection with the bazaar, and expressed the hope that they would be recompensed by a good tale. Mr Coatsworth, an Elder of Middlemarch Presbyterian Church, who was present, said it gave him great pleasure to see so much interest displayed by the young people in connection with the churcb, and exhorted them to be active workers for Christ, ..We understand that at the close the goods" "that remained were auctioned, and that the bazaar was a great success. We have seen the machine working and,it has given entire satisfaction, and we have no doubt that if the dobs agree to get the machine, a concession in price will be granted them. Mb E. H Watson, late of Clyde* was a competitor at the electric light bicycle spo ts, held in Chdatohuroh Iwl Friday night, and his oi l comrades will be pleased to learn of his success on his first appear* ance on a city track. He won the Twomi’e event and got second places in the Hdf-mile and One-mile Handicaps. In. the other event m which he competed, he collided with another competitor, and both came to grief, * Ted ’ was in a prominent position at the time, and would probably have won but for the accident. He rode a roadster (‘Sterling’) machine, geared to 84. On Thursday evening fast Mr R. Mill, accountant of the Bank of New Zealand, Alexandra, was entertained at a stnoka concert, at the Bendigo Hotel, on the eve of his departure for Dunedin, Amongst the gentlemen present were Messrs Rivers, Theyers (who were voted to the chair and vice-chair respectively), Grimstoae, Bark, Richardson, Pearce, Cards, Murray, L, Ryan, John Rivers, Randall, Christie and Pattison, and one and all were enthusiastic in their praises of Mr Mill, who • deservedly has gained the esteem of aiL' Ho=t McAllen provided an excellent and generous spread for his guests*
