CHRISTCHURCH. November 11. In the class for Alderney and Jersey cattle Mr G. Gould was first for bull of any age, with Mr W. J. Silcock second ; while for a bull calved since June 30, 1896, Mr J. Mather was first and Mr W. J. Silcock second. Mr H. S. Richards took the first prize for cow or heifer of any age, with Mr G. Gould second. Mr G. Gould took first and second for heifer calved since June 30, 1896, and also first for heifer calved since June 30, 1896, Mr John Mather being second. In Ayrshires, for bull of any age, the Sunnyside Asylum was awarded first prize, while Mr J. M. Reid was first and Mr F. Johnston second for bull calved since June 30, 1896. For cow of any age the Sunnyside Asylum was first, and Mr James Johns second. In fat cattle Mr A. E. Tutton was first in the class for bullock of any age, with Mr R. S. Abraham second. Mr W. P. M. Buckley was first and Mr S. Garforth second for bullocks calved since June 30, 1893. Mr S. Sparks was first and Mr S. Garforth second for steers calved since Juno 30, 1894; Mr Garforth being first in the class for steer calved since June 30, 1895, with Mr J. Ferguson second. For cow of any age Mr J. Deans was first, and Mr J. Ferguson second. In the class for draught entires Mr K. M'lntosh’a Rosebery took first, president's prize, and medal ; his Glenlie was second. Mr W. Gilmour’a Macalpine was first for three-year-old entires. Mr J. Grigg got first for three-year-old and yearling colts, and first and medal for aged marc. Mr W. F. M. Buckley gained first for three-year-old fillies. Mr J. Boag won first prize for best mare with two of her progeny. In pigs Messrs G. Rhodes and J. Rowe took most prizes in Berkshires, Messrs J. Deans, J. Rpwe, and the Sunnydale Asylum in Yorkshires, Mr S. Garforth in small Yorkshires, and Mr J. Rowe in Tamworths. The milking test was won by Mr W. Hall’s half-bred Jersey cow. Withell 3; ten flock rams, under eighteen months—C. Withell 1. Romney Marsh. Ram, above thirty months—Bealey Bros. 1, 2, and medal; ram, about eighteen and under thirty months John Reid 1 and 2; ram, under eighteen months—Bealey Bros. 1, Canterbury Agricultural College 2; two rams, under eighteen months—Bealey Eros. 1, John Reid 2. Southdowns.— Ram, any age—S. Garforth 1, 2, and special ; ram, above thirty months —John Deans 1 and medal, S. Garforth 2 ; ram, above eighteen months and under thirty months—S. Garforth 1, John Deans 2 ; ram, under eighteen—John Deans 1 and 2 ; two rams, under eighteen months—John Deans 1, S. Garforth 2. Shropshire Downs.—Ram, any age— George P. Pulley 1 and Shropshire Sheep Breeders’ Association and Flock Book Society’s gold medal ,* ram, above thirty months—Rupert Parry 1 and medal, J. M. Furze 2; ram, above eighteen months and under thirty months—J. M. Furze 1, George P. Pulley 2 ; ram, under eighteen months— Sir George Clifford 1 and 2; two rams, under eighteen months—Sir George Clifford 1, Canterbury Agricultural College 2.
