NOBEL’S PATENT DYNAMITE.

Mr Gorman, the travelling agent fir Nobel’s patent Dynamite visited Ciy.lo this week, and made some very successful experiments with this well-known explosive on the river bank on Tuesday last. The experiments were witnessed by several gentlemen in the district, one of whom being Mr Mac George, the County Engineer. Four shots were fired, and in each case the reresult only tended to show the superiority of this explosive over any other of the kind yet known. The most successful shot was fired on a large solid rook, with a drillhole of 3ft. 3in., and with only a charge of ISoz. of dynamite. The hole was drilled through the grain of the rock, and even this small charge had the effect of displacing nearly twenty tons of stone, independently of severely shaking the large ho ly of rock adjoining. The results were looked upon as highly successful, and the result as compared with the cost is truly wonderful. The only wonder to us is that dynamite has not long before this found its way into more general use amongst miners. It is equally as useful in bringing down large masses of earth, and wo feel confident in recommending its use to miners, contractors and others. It is six times stronger than blasting powder. The dynamite was first .introduced into New Zealand a year or two ago, Messrs Dalgety, Nichols and Co, of Dunedin, being the agents, and since its introduction, we are informed that a very large quantity has been disposed of.
