THE DEATH OF THE PRINCE IMPERIAL.
The Lusitania, which arrived at Melbourne from Aden on July 6th brings Cape news to the 10th June. There are conflicting accounts regarding the Prince Imperial’s death. The official statement is that the Prince’s commander and a reconnoitring party were dismounting during a melee in the Meld, and were surprised. A general fight ensued, and after the enemy were dispersed the Prince rode info a deep ravine where the Zulus were concealed, and they assogaied him with two others. Another report is that the Prince’s charger was restive, and that he was unable to mount and was killed on the spot. His body was recovered. He had received several stabs, and had been stripped of his clothing, but not mutilated. At tbe funeral service Lord Chelmsford was chief mourner The remains were conveyed to Maritzlmrg, where the troops paraded. The body lay in stats and was then taken to Simon’s Bay, whence the Oroutcs will convey it to England.
