The Dunstan Times.

FRIDAY, JULY 4, 1879.

Beneath the rule of men entirely just the pen is mightier than the sword.

It hag frequently been an unpleasant duty with us to complain of the irregularity in the delivery of the mails, still it has been in the public interest we have done it ; but when an entirely different state of affairs exists, and the mails are brought to our doors with the regularity of clockwork, or when that every effort is used to battle against the contending elements so as to keep time, w r e look upon it that it is equally a duty with us to record and thus give credit where it is due. For some time past the mail service to us has been conducted in a particularly regular manner, and everything has been done to faithfully fulfil the contract conditions, and to give satisfaction. The delivery of the last mail was an exceptional one, and as it speaks volumes for the cluck and energy of the driver, wo particularise it. These fact will speak for themselves. On account of the bad state of the roads the coach from Palmerston did not reach Naseby till the evening of Wednesday instead of Tuosday ; yet, immediately on its arrival, Mr Cook started, and driving throughout the night arrived at his destination, Clyde, on the Thursday morning between five and six. In mid-winter with the ground either a mass of ice or two feet in mud, travelling in daylight is no pleasure, but to undertake to drive a coach and four under similar circumstances, must be simply painful ; yet, this was done : we think therefore the driver, Mr Cook, deserves a word of encouragement, and we feel great pleasure in giving it.
