CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
o The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday evening last the 10th instant at? o’clock. Present, —B. Naylor, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Welsford, Huoston, Beck, Cox, and M ‘Connochie. The minutes of the previous mooting were read and confirmed. The inward correspondence was read and received, and the outward adopted, as read. Resolved, —That this Council is prepared on receipt of Ll5O from the Library Committee, to execute, in favor of the Library Committee, a Lease of the now Library Hall, for a term of 21 years at a peppercorn rent. The lease to he prepared at the expense of the said Library Committee.
The Town Clerk w.,s instructed to forward a copy of the above resolution to the Library Committee. Application from the School Committee was read for the use of the Town Hall on the night of the 28th instant. The Town Clerk stated that a previous application was in by a Mr Vincent for the same evening, but that no deposit was paid,
The Town Clerk was instructed to see if Mr Vincent intended occupying the Hal! on the 28th instant.
The Mayor was empowered to give the free use of the Hall to the School Committee on any night it is disengaged.
The Town Clerk laid on the table a letter from Mr F. J. Wilson, Solicitor, relative to the Bye Laws, also, a draft notice to be published. He said it was necessary to appoint a Newspaper as the proper one for the publication of notices relating to tbc Town.
Resolved,—That the Dunstan Times be and is hereby declared the Newspaper for legal publication of Notices concerning the Municipality. Resolved, —That the Notice of Bye Laws be published in accordance with Section I SO, part XI If, Municipal Corporation’s Act, 18fi7. Resolved, —That the Town Clerk write to the Government, asking for a remission of all fines and penalties inflicted for misdeeds within the boundary of the Clyde Municipality:
The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Government, asking them to sanction the appointment of Mr T. Fergus, the District Road Engineer, as Engineer of the Clyde Bridge.
The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Government, and apply that the vacant land at the rear of the rear of the west side of the Town be sot aside as aMunicipal reserve for tree planting. In discussing the sanitary state of the Town, it was resolved, —That the Public Works’ Committee make an inspection of the Town, with the view of having all existing nuisances (if any) removed
Accounts to the amount of L 53 10s 4d were passed for payment. A progress payment of LI Of) was made to Mr Cambridge, contractor, of the new Library building. After discussing suggestions to alter the plana of the Town-hall, it was decided that nothing could be done before consulting the Architect.
A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
