WORKING FOR GOLD IN' RIVER BEDS
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUNSTAXTIMES.) Sir,—ln your issue of the ICth inst. I had the pleasure of readingan article referring to the gold dredging operations now being carried on in various parts of your auriferous rivers, and, as if in accordance with the almost prophetic wish of the writer of that article, 1 desire you to make it known to all parties interested that I have arrived in Dunedin, with the plans and details of the submarine boat, in order to obtain, by efficient and scientilic means, the large deposits of gold which are known to exist in the rivers before mentioned. For the interest of your readers 1 will inform you briefly of the ehi-f qualifications of the boat. 1. We can prospect any part of the river, to a depth not exceeding eighty feet, in half an hour. 2. We can blast rocks, remove bstruc tions, dig and sluice the gold while at the bottom of the river, in six-hour shifts, without any communication with the surface 3. We can secure the boat on a rocky or uneven bottom, and work, with security, in an angle of forty-five or fifty degrees. 4. We secure the boat, before sinking, by means of an anchor, without any regard to the rapidity of the current. 5. The tailings, stones, and sludge are forced outside the boat by means of compressed air ! and chemicals, in a prepared state, are contained in a box below, whereby we are enabled to renovate the vitiated air, and supply fresh oxygen. The cost of the boat I estimate at 1,000/., and propose to accept ten promoters, at 100/. each. Afterward* form it into a hirger company, for the purpose of constructing as many additional boats as may be deemed necessary, and I trust that all who feel themselves interested in the riches of tie New Zealand rivers will liberally and practically assist me in introducing another source of wealth to the Province, and the means of benefitting all who take part in an enterprise liksly to be productive of greater results than any speculation ever entered into before.
