TOWN-COUNCIL CLYDE.
The Council met at the Temporary Chambers on .Friday evening, August 30th. The Mayor and full Council present. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. The Town-clerk read a letter from the Provincial Solicitor, in answer to a communication he had received from the Mayor, respecting the of hour meeting of the purport of which was that it was not the duty of a Provincial Solicitor to interfere with Town Councils. In compliance with the advertisement for the office of Town-clerk, three applications were laid on the table, viz., from Mr George B. Douglass, Mr \V. L. Bailey, and Mr M Marshall. Councillor Cambridge proposed, seconded by Councillor Cope—That the applications for the office of Town-clerk be considered in Committee, which was agreed to. The Council then went into Committee, and the Mayor was voted to the cliair. Upon the resumption of business Councillor Morice reported that the Council had decided that Mr W. L. Bailey should be appointed to the office, subject to any terms that the Council should think fit. Proposed by Councillor Morice, seconded by Councillor Ryan—That Mr "YV. L. Bailey, be appointed Town-c'erk, subject to any agreement the Council may deem necessary. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Cope, seconded by Councillor Goodwin—That device No. 3, with the motto " Crescimus Cum Tempore," be the seal of the Municipality, which was agreed to upon the understanding that the cost of same should not exceed £lB 10s. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin se- , condedby ConncillorCope ThattheTownclerk be instructed to write to Mr Isaacs, the member for Clyde, requesting him to wait upon the Government, respecting the grant in aid of this Municipality. Proposed by Councillor Cambridge, seconded by Councillor Goodwin—That the Mayor assisted by Councillors. Morice, , Cope, and Hazlett, draw up a form of , agreement, to be signed by tho Townclerk. Carried. Proposed by Councillor Cope, seconded ■ by Councillor Cambridge—That the Standing Orders of the City of Dunedin . be adopted pro tem. Carried. After the usual vote of thanks to the ' Chair the meeting terminated.
