In reply, I beg to state that I feel truly grateful for this high proof of your confidence in me, and that I have great pleasure in acceding to your request. ___ Since I have been in the district I have employed a large number of men, and thus been the means of retaining a population which would otherwise have been lost. Should I have the honor of being returned, I pledge myself to do everything in my power to further the interests of the town of Clyde and the district generally, and that without the slightest idea ol claiming any remuneration for my services during my term of office.
