ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH MAIL.
(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) The following appeared in a Dunstan Times Extraordinary issued at an early hour on Wednesday morning last. Dunstan Times Office, June 20, 7 a.m. The scxew steamship South Australian arrived at the Bluff, from Melbourne, at 7,30 yesterday morning: She brings a telegram announcing that the Peninsular and Oriental Company’s steamer Madras had arrived, with the English mails, at King George’s Sound. The Madras was coalin” I when the steamer which brought on the mails left for Adelaide. The following is a summary of the news brought by the mail: London, April 26. The Queen is at Osborne, and in good health. Sir J. M. Sutton is definitely appointed Governor of Victoria. There are great apprehensions of an outbreak of cholera, Austria las ordered all her land and naval forces to meet at a given point, so as to place her on a firmer footing, owing to the threatening attitude of Italy. It is reported that the bmperor Napoleon has refused to assist Italy should she attack Austria. An attempt has been made to assassinate the Emperor of Russia. The assassin fired a pistol at the Czar, but his arm was struck up by a peasant. The Emperor is unhurt. The criminal was at once secured. The peasant has been ennobled. London, April 30. Italy is actively preparing for war. Prance professes a neutral policy regarding the difficulties between Prussia and Austria. Piussia is establishing five fresh army corps. London, May 6. Prussia has summoned Saxony to disarm. Saxony has invoked the aid of the German Diet. War between those Powera was considered imminent. Specie payments have been suspended in Austria and Italy. It is reported that Prance is about to send troops to Rome. The panic in the money market continues. Endeavors are being made by Italy to raise a loan in England. Lai go withdrawals of gold have been made from the Bank of England for transmission to the continent. The Redistribution of Seats Bill has been brought before Parliament. Fourteen rotten boroughs have been disfranchised. The redistribution has been: extra seats to the counties, twenty-six : to the boroughs, sixteen; to Scotland, seven. The whole of the Austrian army has been placed on a war footing. Monetary panic in Paris, unparalelled by the panic in Loudon. Two banks have suspended payments. The second reading of the Reform Bill was carried by five votes. The Chancellor of the Exchequer shows a surplus of .£3,550,000. London, May 12. The Government have authorised the suspension of the Bank Charter Act. The Italian Government have ordered the formation of fifty companies, under Garibaldi. Discount 12 per cent. VICTORIA: The Panama and New Zealand Company’s mail steamer Uuahine arrived at Queenscliff on the 14th inst.
