EXPLOSION AT PATERSON.
Large Building Completely Wrecked. Terrible Predicament of the Inmates. Hanging on the WindowSills. Seventeen Bisons Killed. San Fp.ancisco, July 10. At Paterson, New Jersey, seventeen persons were killed and others injured by an explosion of fix.eworkß in a store ou the grouhd floor of a crowded _nement buiding. The force of the explosion wounded people half a block away. Within a'minute every window of the four storey wooden building where it took place was spouting with fire. The occupants of the flats in the structure hung from the window-siiis and twenty were rescued by ; the firemen from their perilous positions. The firemen attempted to keep the flames from consuming the upper storeys, where many persona were imprisoned, but the lower walla so weakened that they came crashing down, threatening the lives of the firemen and injuring several. The -bodies taken out were-charred mostly beyond recognition.
