[by telegbaph.] Wellington, Last night., The advisability of reducing the return fares and increasing the>"?ipoe fares on our railways was urged on the Minister for Railways by Mr t'irani today, his desire being that Bettiers might derive some advantage from the concessions _ recently made to tourists and visitors to the colonies. The Minister reptied ; that the [..neurit scale of fares was arranged on an equable basis, and was much appreciated iiy the travelling public; as was shown by the iucn-aee in the number of passengers. The department could not recommend a return to • the previous *y«tem, seeing that passengers were receiving great; benefit from the new system. Sir Joseph Ward added that at present there was uniformity in the matter of railway fares such as did not exist in any other part of the world, and he had under consideration a proposal to extend the time for which tickets would remain in force. ■'■'•...
