Conciliation Board's Award.

The Conciliation Board gave their award this morning in the dispute in the timber trade, the principal clauses being: —That ■47 hours constitute a week's work ; that all overtime worked be paid for at the rate of time and a quarter for the first two hours, and time and a half for any further overtime with the actual funning of a mill, and other overtime to be .paid for at the rate of time and a quarter, provided no employe receiving a constant weekly wage shall be entitled to claim overtime ; that time and a half be paid for work done on Sundays and holidays, except in the case of necessary repairs to plant, which shall be paid for at ordinary rates, but iv no case less than Is per hour. That the wages of boyo under 16 shall be not less than 10s per week, boys of 16 years to receive 15s, 17 years 18s, 18 years 22s 6d, 19 years 27s 6d, 20 years 335. That the following shall be the minimum rate of wages paid : —Head men at the breakiug down saws 8s per day, tail men 7s, head men at first circular, saws 8a 6d, tail men 7s 6d, head men at second circular saws Bs, tail men 7s, head men at first drag benches 7b 6d, tail men 6s 6d, head men at second drag benches 7a, tail men 6s head men at redcutter saws 7s 6d, tail men 6s 6d, wedger at first circular saws 63 6d, men m charge of deal frame or gang saw 6s Bd, men in charge of two deal frames or gang saws 7s 6d, men in charge of jigger saw or log frames 7s, men in charge of two jigger saws or long frames Ba, log-getters 6s Bd, men in charge of main goose saws 7s, men in charge of second goose saws 6s 4d, chief £3 per week, assistant saw doctor £2 5s per week, slipnien 7s, slip truck stackers 7s, ordinary yard men 6a 6d, horse drivers 7s, slabmen' 6? 6d, sawdust men 6s Bd, shavings men 6s 6d, engine drivers 8s 4d, stokers 7s, engine drivers Bs, blacksmiths 93, blacksmiths' strikers .6s 6d, head mill carpenters 9s, second mill carpenters 8s 6d, yard foremen 8s 4d, tally cleike 7s, second engineers 9s, plaining machine feeders 6s 6d, dressed timber sorters 7s, watchman 6s per night of tight hours, head order man 8s 4d, other ordermeu 7s 4d, first machinists who make their own knives and irons 9s, machinists who set up their own machines 7s 6d. Preference will be given to unionists and provision made for the employment of a certain number of lesa competent men on the usual conditions ; that the recommendations shall come into force on the Ist November, 1901, and remain in force until 31st October, 1904.

The Board meet on Tuesday to see if the finding is accepted.
