Racing Conference.

[PHR PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, This day.

The Kacing Conference appointed a committee to consider a proposal to ap-, point stipendiary stewards. It was suggested to appoint five at a salary of £1000 each, but the general opinion seemed to.be that it was not likely they would get men well enough qualified to act aud the expense would be too great. A proposal to introduce class racing met with much opposition and was withdrawn, and another to reduce the intervals between each day's racing of clubs with two or more days' programmes was lost. Sir J. G. Ward, in his address to the Conference, said that no legislation would be introduced to remove undesirable characters from the racecourse, and referred to the deputation who had objected to the arbitrary rule by which a number of prominent men were disqualified. — The chairman said thia arose from the practice of mixed racing, and it was apreed that an endeavor should be made to abolish it.
