Racing Conference.

[per press association.] ♦Vellington. Last night. A number of North Island members complained of excessive charges for advertising in the Jieferee, the official calendar.—lt was decided to issue the calendar as usual, but the chairman is to interview the proprietors with a view to securing an alteration in the charges. The committee appointed to -consider the question of gentlemen riders fees drew up the following proposal:— lhat the fee for licensed gentlemen riders be £1; that the fees received be voted to a welter flat race for gentlemen riders only "at winter meetings of metropolitan clubs."—This was agreed to. In connection with pony racing the Chairman said that from the remarks of Sir Jceeph Ward it was obvious something must be done toj" eet fc he difficulty which had urisen. They had permitted trotting at flat race meetings, and must consider the question of pony racing at trotting meetings.—lt was resolved that the Conference, to reduce the difficulty existing in relation to pony racing in trottieg programmes, reoorameDde the admission of their own motion by metropolitan clubs of alt disqualifications which may be incurred in relation Ibertto, al-ways providing that the races

are ran under the Rules of Racing ; that not more than two races be included |in any day's racing, and that programmes be submitted for the approval ot a metropolitan club in the same way that trotting races on racing programmes are submitted to the approval of trotting authorities.

The applications of the Waikouaiti Racing Club, Waiapu Racing Club, Waverley-Waitotura Racing Club, and Winton Racing Club for permits were, not granted. The extra permits applied for by the Avondale, Foxton, and Wairarapa Racing Clubs were not granted. On the .motion of Mr Samuel, seconded by Mr Fried lander, Sir George Clifford was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. This concluded the business of the Conference.
