TOWN EDITION.

The Miyor, Mr G. H. Swan, forwarded the following cable to Lord Kitchener on Christmas Eve :—"Kindly convey our heartiest Christmas greetings to New Zealand's representatives in South Africa." To-day his Worship received the reply :—" I have done as you wish. Many thanks. —Kitchener, Pretoria." The risks thrust upon the public by reckless riders of bicycles tound another illustration yesterday. Mr and Mrs Pascoe were leturning to town from the breakwater. As the sea was occasionally breaking over the wall they had to walk on the road. A bicyclist, travelling in the same direction at a tremendous pace struck Mrs Pascoe on the right arm with such force that an umbrella ske was carrying was smashed. Had she been struck full on the impact would have probably killed her. The cyclist ■was called upon to stop, to see what damage he had done, but rode off at even greater speed. The three services held at St. Augustine's Church on Christmas Day were well attended, especially the early celebration of communion and the carol service in the evening, when a number of carols were rendered by the choir, interspersed with hymns, in which the congregation took part. The solos were taken by Miss Lound, Mrs Sorrell, ana Mr Saunders. The church was very tastefully decorated for the oncasion with flowers and greenery. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. C. L. luke.
