BOATING FATALITY.
Thore is, unfortunately, every reason to bolieve that a youth named Thomas JBSBt, aged about U years, and only son of Captain l f ast, of the Tyser Company, has lost his life in the inner harbor.
He left the Western Spit in his oanoe on Wednesday mornicg with the intention of proceeding to Mr Kinross White's Teremoana residence, on the other eido of the harbor, where he had previously gpeut occasional holidays. Yesterday inemicg the two sons of Mr Kinross White went to Teremoana expecting to find young East there, but to their surpriae aud terror he had not arrived. It subsequently became known that on Wednesday afternoon Mrs Loanelly's launoh had pioked up tho canoe, a frail little oanvas boat nino feet long, off the Pipi IJanfc, and immediately the grav6ft pos-iblo feara wore created for tho boy's safety.
A search party was at onoo organised, and in Mr 'Kinross White's launoh they thoroughly explored 3ha Watchman and other places whero it was thought the boy might have possibly reaohed, bnt their efforts wero uneuooessful. Another Bearoh party left in the launch at 5 o'olook this morning, but so far tho result of their quest is unknown.
When young Kasi left the Spit ho had a small eail net en his oanoe, bnt it was no'iocd that whon ho reichsd long Point ho took down it acd started paddling. £s strong north-cast wind was blowing at tho time, and there oan bo little doubt that the cooMo-fchell the boy was in came to grief, and that he has been drowned
Captain >:ast has beon absent in Wellington, but ia en hie way baok to Napier to-day, aod tbe aad news will be broken to him at Woodville.
