Auckculmd, This day A question of considerable importance affeoting the sugar refining industry came before the Harbor Board's special meeting ; last night. The Colonial Sugar Company complain of the wharfage oharge of one j shilling per ton on refined sugar shipped |i foB consumption in. the southern part of ithe colony. Hγ W. Ihilson, for the , Sugar Company, stated that the oom- . pany are anxious to refine all sugar for disposal within New Zealand in the Auokland works, and with that objeot ia view they oontemplato an extension of their works in Auokland. They oonsider, however, that the wharfage charge handioapa them in their business in the south, and they are determined that unless the oharge is abated to ship the sugar for the south of Nβ*r Zealand from Sydney, and uee the 1 Auokland works only as a refinery for sugar to he consumed in Auokland and the district. 1 his Mr Jr'hilson pointed out would mean throwing a number of men ont of emploj meat, as well as a reduction of the harbor revenue from ooal imports. The memhers of the Board were disposed to meet theßugar Company in thsir request. There was a dietinot feeling that the wharfage oharge might at all events be reduoed to sixpence. This, however, will not meet the Sugar Company's views, and as the effect on the harbor revenue will have ta be considered, it was deoided to leave the matter till the next ordinary meeting of the Board,
