HASTINGS.

[OWN COBEI3PONDBNT.]

Mr A. 1«. D Fraser informs us that; he han had a telegram from the Premier, definitely arramjiug to address the Hastings electors at the Frincesa Theatre on Friday. The winter had Mrly started in Hastings, alternating with bard frost and London fog. This last should prove useful for the doctors and chemists, aa in consequonce of it, coughs and oolds are quite fashionable. The Eduoation Board has granted lesve of absenae to Miss Percy. JSTo one who knows the untiriug exertions of this lady in her especial department at the District School will grudge her a short rest from her duties, especially after her recent bereavement. Next week the first branch meeting of the Bheep Dog Trial Olub will ba held. It will take place at Forangahau. Upon the succeas of this meeting much will depend, &3 it will be an object lesaon to other parts of Hawke's Bay. I am afraid that the present weather does not hold out muoh of a prospect as regards the pleasure of the meeting, sad the rapidly shortening of the days will lengthen the meetings. However, the result will be watched with much interest, and will be well noted at the Kuripapanga general gathering. The front seats for Maughan Barnett's concert to-morrow are nearly all engaged.
