Ai'fcer we went to presß on Saturday, at the #harefftngi and Hawke'a Bay Polo Clubs' gymkhana the Hurdle RsOe was won by Mr Stanley Bennetts Ew3, Mr P< Dol* bels MaiinO sooond, and 3V.tr 8. 3, Banners Smut third:. , TK& Oigas aad Umbrella Racie i artilshed an exciting competition, and though it; was raining heavily, the fun was good. The raoe fell to Mr Stanley Bennett on Tiny, Mr Hutchinson on Ohioago second. The Thread-the - Neadle Raoe _ aleo furnished some good sport, the winner being Mr A S. Baker on Tommy, Mr Oro3Be'a Butterfly aeoond. Tommy did splendid work during the day. The gelding was bred by Mr Geo.tge Hunter at Porongahau, b#t *he excellent riding of Mr Baker did mtch to bring the j3o3y into prominence. , . . ' . The day's aporta concluded with 11 Oos< tume Race, which proved a highly amusing event. There was a Trilby, with tfee orthodox Joot and stately presence, though as it turned out, she lacked the influenoe cf a Svengali to make her pony win. There were also represented Charley's Aunt, the New Woman, and sundry other peculiar freaks of human nature, who unmindful of the rain, raced all they knew for the honors, which fell to Mr W. Lloyd, who was mounted on a oream pony belonging to Mr 0. D. Kennedy, Mr Baker on Tommy being seoond.
