ATTEMPT TO BURN THE TOWN.

A deliberate attempt was made at 2 o'olook this morning to fire the principal businees block in the town. A collection of small woollen rags saturated with kerosene was found on fire, with a tin containing kerosene alongside, undernoath the flooring of Smallbone's fruiterer's shop, a large twostoried building. A hole "was burned through the floor, and the house was full of smoke when the fire was discovered. The smell of burning kerosene awakened the pebple sleeping upstairs.
