HASTINGS.

(OWN OOBBBBFOHTDBNI.)

I have been asked by some Hastings people to call attention to a small matter at the Napier railway, but which is liable to eauee inoonvenience to travellers. It is a matter I have noticed myself, but have waited till others spoke of it. It ia the practical cessation of theusefulfive minutes' notioe of the Btarting of the traius. It is true that there is a soft and not unmusioal apparatus played upon inside the station at that time, but for all the service it is as a reminder to travellers at anything like a distance from the station, it is of noservioo whatever. With the usual bell a person say, in Olive-square, could quite easily hear the Bignal, and catch the train. The Court' Singers gave their promised conoert here last night. It is to be regretted for our sake that a longer notioe had not been given to us, bo that a larger number might have enjoyed the concert. Frau Yon Vahsel took the field at once, and kept it throughout. Probably no singer has so completely won a Hastings audienoe before so quickly and thoroughly. Those who did not hear her at Napier on Monday should not omit the opportunity to-night; The conoert throughout waß a good one, and for most of the items an enoore was insisted on. Although, owing to full oritique of this talented combination whioh has already appeared in this paper, I do not enter more into details, I cannot conolude without noticing the tasteful and sympathetic accompaniments of Miss MoBurney, to whom the singers are indebted for muoh of last night's success.
