Albany, 7 his day. Lord Braasey was entertained at a ~— _-_ -anflUeTtes ISJ_^ e "i°^tb8 Imperial he saufiTwaTpite clear to hia mind that the share of Australia in the defence would be of a local character, and if the efficiently attended to this to a geater extent than already done by the looal navy, it was all that Bhe could posaibly be expeoted to do. In mining the Imperial lederation League it was never his view that they should ondeavor to get the oolonies to give greater peouniary assistance to defence, and he believed that the publio feeling in the Old ■Country waa that whatever might be the future development at the present time it /would be unwise and was uncalled for to .'m_ke any attempt to increase the contributions. He had come to the oonolusion that / the Imperial Federation League should cease ✓' to exist, as there was now no need of any ■•■ / body to stir up sympathy for the colonies. r J His Excellency then referred to his estate I near here, and said " General" Booth J ■deßired to nse it as an oversea colony, but after consideration be had decided not to accede to the request, as it was not a good thing for a young country to h*ve some hundreds of people not of the beat olass as colonists dumped down within it.
