The Mataketake correspondent of the Eeefton Times writes that two men named Hargieavet and Haidan had been drinking at May* public house on Saturday night, when a row ensued during whioh they put May on the fire. A man named Mitchell succeeded in getting a wire off from Marohieon for the police in spite of the danger be was expoitd to, as Hargreaves openly ■ wore he would shoot anyone who attempted to go to the telegraph office. All Saturday night the place was in an uproar. Quna were being fired continuously. The store was itripped of everything with the wxoeption oi a little bebr. After taking May off the fire they burnt all hie olothea. He is very much burned, although not seriously, and ht> oannot leave hin bed. A ooustable went up from ' yell at 3 o'clock on Mondty, and found it neoeesary to iwear in four ipeoial conatablei, as Hargreaves deolaies he will not be taken alive. This ocourred in what ii known ne the Lost Tnbo district.
