Messrs Abraham and Williams, of Palmerston North, report: - A moderate muster of shsep oame forward at Palmerston Contrary to recent experiences, the bulk sold under tho hammer, which imparted consequently a much moro cheerful tone. Suitable wethers advanced Gd per head over recent sales. The demand for lambs was more vigorous than of late, which has a hardening effect upon this olass of stook. The demand throughout was of such a nature as to effect a total clearance. Tho entry of cattle was small; useful sorts made up tho bulk. At any rate the bidding was fairly active, and all entered found purchasers. Sheep—Forward store owes 5s Gd, others 4s 6d, 2-tooth ewes Gs Bd, empty 3s 7d, well-bred breeding ewes (mixed ages) Gs Gd, lambs 3a 3d to 3s lOd. Cattle-3-year steers in forward condition £i 8s 6d to £i 10s, 20-month steers £2 16s, springing heifers £3, poor yearlings 19s, small weaners 14s, The Egmont Farmers' Union (limited) held a very sucefsaful clearing sale on behalf of Messrs M'Cracken Bros., Manaia, on Friday, the 31st ult. 'ihe different lines of stock wero all of fuperior quality, and made very satisfactory prices, and also the sundries realised satisfactory prices. We quote fat light wfcight bullocks £5 10s, 2J year steers £3 15p, 2 yenr steers £3 4s. Sheep — Fat wethers 9s Id. Horses — Draughts £G to £22, hacks £7 to £8 7s Gd. At Manaia on Wednesday, Sth inst, about the advertised number of cattle came forward for sale. The attendance was fair, but bidding rather slow, though we practically sold everything that was yarded. V7e quota 2 year steers £2 3s to £2 7s, 12 to 18 months steers £1 18s to £2, fat cows £4 to £4 ss, dairy cows £i 5s to £5 12s Gil, weaners £1 to £1 7s. Pigs, 20s to 255.
