MR THOMPSON AT WHANGAREI.

[pan paess AsaociATioa.J

Auckland, Last night.

Mr Thompson, M H.R , addressed the Whangarei electors at Marsden last night Mr Thompson dealt with tho legislation of the past session fully. He thought the indications polnUd to a public worksborrowing policy. He hoped not, but if so he must insist on getting a shara for the North He denounced in s:rong tsrms the Native Land Act, and said it was a disgrace to the Statute Book. It was stopping Northern settlement, pauperising the natives, and ruining their credit. A crying injustice had been done to tha North by its passing. He would use every effort for it* repeal, and ho thought the natives would bo ju*tifiad in using every constitutional means to that end. He did not think the Mioiater of Labor's views of the labor question would bo a credit to the colony. He considered the charge of "Spoils to the victors "made against the Government was an unfair one and not justified. Ho spoke with regret of the indisposition of the Minister of Lands, who he considered was doing his beat. Ho -was accorded a hearty and unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
