Ihe Chrysanthemum Show in the Athe_£_um Hall resulted in a profit of aoout £10. Sj elated are the promoters with the success of the show that the interest is not to be allowed to flag, and so the exhibition now will be made an annual one.

A meeting of members of the Horticultural Society was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the old Provincial Counoil Chamber. Present—Messrs H. S. Tiffen (chairman), J. N. -nderson, W. C. Yates, G. T. Fannin, and J. Theakscone, The balance-sheet showed the total debts of the sooiety to be £25 9s, but there was only £14 18s 8d available to pay them with. It was resolved that the chairman write to the secretary, Mr Henry Lasoelles, asking him to produoe details ot the aooounts, together with members" subscription list.
The Howe-? poQg Dramatio Company will opan a season in Napier on Monday evening next with "Harbor Lights." the drama is a highly interesting one, full of exoiting incidents and affords good opportunity for spectacular effect. Mr Carnell, M.H R., communicated with the Marine Department in respect to the mast of a vessel that has been seen off the coast of Mohaka. Ho represented that tho matter required attending to at onoe, as the mast was iv tho track of passing vessels. He has received a rep'y to his telegram stating that the master ot the cable repairing steamer Terranora haa been inutructed to investigate the supposed wreckage on his way north.
Mc H. 8. Tiffen intends making another attempt to import some of the finer varieties of chrysanthemums, and special arrangements will be made with the purser of the stsamar by which they will be shipped to ensure oaro being taken of the plants. The last trial of this kind had auythiug but a s.ti.faotory result The captain of the steamer, thinking he was doing the importer a feiadness, used to treat the plants to a bucket ot water whenever tho fit seized him, with the result that when the concignment reaoh-.d its destination it was difficult to distinguish pUut.J from soil, so completely spoiled ware the former.
A private wire received in Wanganui states that James Bailey, the alleged absconding cattlo dealer, had not been arrested, as h*d been reported. It is stated that Bailey's destination ia Coolgardio, whilst others aver that he has gone to 'Frisco.
