Hospital Board.

The Napier Hospital Board met at 2 p.m. Present—Messrs H. P. Cohen (ohairman), Faulknor, R. D. M'Lean, Villers, G. Rymer, G. H. Swan, and S. Carnell, M.H.R. PBBVIOUS MINUTKB. In the minutes of a meeting held at the hospital on February 7th it was recommended that night nurses receive extra pay ; that the water tanks be cleaned twice a year ; that arrangements bo made with an express for the delivery of ice from the freezing works; that a small gas Btove be procured. The committeo appointed to consider Mr Wenley's motion, after some deliberation, resolved to draw the SurgeonHuperintendent's notice to the decision that, instead of a dispenser being procured, a qualified medioal officer be engaged instead. On Mr Swan's motion the suggestion re gas stove and cupboard in No. 1 ward was eliminated from the minutes The minutes were then confirmed. Mr Carnell said the question of medioal staff was not thoroughly deoided at the meeting at the hospital. The Ohairman said the meeting deoided that Dr. Meozies' attention was to be called to a former letter, requesting him to procure a medical assistant. Dr. Menzies was authorised to instruot the secretary to advertise in the two ends of the islands for an assistant to help him iv his duties. That was practically the resolve of the meeting. Mr Carnell differed, as the question was not definitely settled at tho meeting. The Chairman said whether the question was finally dealt with or not, the meeting certainly resolved as he had stated. Mr M'Lean: Was it a full committee meeting ? The Chairman : It was a speoial meeting of the hospital that was held. Mr Villers said the committee was instructed to report to the trustees, that some radioal changes were required in the management of the institution, and not to settle the matter definitely between themselves. That's what he understood. Mr Carnell: It seems to me then by this recommendation of the committee, that it is conclueive. Tho presence of Nurse Lees was required at the meeting to substantiate certain statements, but as she was absent, no conclusion was come to. I think the matter should be kept open. The minutes having been confirmed, the question waß allowed to drop. MISC-LDANBOU-. The committee reported that everything at the hospital was in a satisfactory condition. Dr Menziea had returned from his holiday on the 7th inst , having greatly benefited in health.

Mr Kirkpatrick was granted a reduotion of 10s per month in the case of his daughter, The Ohairman said he had appointed Mr" D. P. Balfour as hospital subscription oolleotor in the country, and Mr H. Naphtali for the town.

Nurse Lees wrote, suggesting that Nurse Robinson be appointed senior nurse.—The staff at present is adequate, and recommendation could not be acceded to, but Nurse Robinson's services will be recognised when opportunity offere. A vote of thanks was accorded to tho Garrison Band for their concert in aid of the hospital fund, which had realised £12 7s 2d. The Chairman said a very successful operation had been performed at the hospital in the presenoe of Dr. Oleghorn, of Blenheim, on Mrs Sutherland, who was progressing very favorably, and this was the first operation of its Kind that had been done there for some time. He stated this to show that the hospital was eminently suited foi suoh cases.

Applications for positions as probationer nurse? were received from Misses Pirani, Weber Lincoln. —Placed on record, aud applications will take usual course. Mr Vilters said he noticed a dispenser at the hospital. Wh&tsalary was he getting, and who appointed him?— The Chairman said that was a piivate arrangement between the doctor and tho dispenser. " ?
