Wellington, Last night. Major Sommerville, chairman of the New Zealand Rifle Association, arrived in Wellington to-night, en route for Christohurch to make final arrangements for the annual shooting competition which opens at HiUafcorough on Thursday, March Ist The foot of the Hinemoa not being available to .convey the northern representatives to Lyttelton, and the want of Martini ammunition for practice, will, the Major thinks, affect the attendance, but not seriously. The entries are still coming in satisfactorily, and Major Sommernlle» esttmafs the attendance from tho North Island at 150 Very few enquiries have been made from Australia, but it is understood that a team will oomo from Tasmania. Major Sommerville will interview the Defence Minister to-morrow, and will communicate with the Union Company with the view of a reduction in the fares balweeu Wellington and Lyttelton.
