High School Board.
The High School Board of Governors met this afternoou Piesent — Hon. J. D. Ormond, M.L.C. (chair), and Messrs H. S. Tift'en, G E. Bainsbury, H. J. Twigg, J. W. Neal, and J. W. Carlile. The secretary stated that Messrs Neal, Twigg, Carlilo, and Shrimpton had been re-elected governors by various local bodies. It was stated that there was a balanco at the bank of £506 6s lOd. Tho b-dance-sheet was laid ou tho table, certified to by the Auditor-General. A letter from tho Corporal ion re retaining wall (cost £60) to be erected at High Schcol was read. They would pay half of construction. Borne members thought tho Corporation should build the wall themselves, or maintain their own road. What the Governors wanted was that the water should be kept off tho property. Messrs Tifl'en and (Jarlile wero appointed a sub-corntuittce to meet a committee of the Council to discuss tbe matter, and come to an arrangement if possible. Tho secretary of Uie Napier Football Club wrote asking for the use of the gymnasium for the winter season on the same terms as last ycir.—Tbo headmaster thought it undesirable if footballars practiced in it. Last year thero was moro of that than gymnastics, and tho place was damaged.—lt was resolved to lease the hall on certain conditions, which will have to be carried out Tho report on the scholarship holders stated that they wero all satisfactory. Tho district Eohool scholars wero the best propared and most intelligent scholarship holders th it bed attended thero for somo years. The mistress of the Girls' School reported an average attendance of 53 for tho term. Mr M. Barnett was appointed visiliug music master at the Girlb' . chool. It was decided to obtain a gymnastic t;>aohot for tho girls for tho winter, if a suitable teacher can be obtained. Some requisites were ordered to bo obtained. Accounts amounting to £492 14s Id were passed for paymin - The meeting then terminated.
