Wkllington, This day,

A deputation of Maoris, accompanied by Mr Menteath, solicitor, waited on Mr Cadman to protest against tho statement attributed to him, thit if the Appeal Court decided against the Eiver Board's power to open the Wairarapa Lake, Parliament would bo asked to interfere.

Mr Cadmau said he had baen misrepresented. He had merely stated that the natives acted improperly in closing tho lako while the matter was nub jiidicc. Tho natives said if the decision was agaiubt them they would appeal to tho Privy Council.
