The Caithness Estates.
The following is an extract from tho Scotsman of 3rd March last:-"At the High Court of Justice, Ch .nesry Division, before Mr Justice Wright, on Wednesday, an action, instituted by Captain H. W. Bairnsfather, of Beechwood, and Mr Fmlay C. ._uld, S.S C, Edinburgh, on behalf of Mr Alexander J_vau Murray Macgregor, of Olive, Australia [? Now Zealand], against the trustees of the late Sir George Philip Alexander .iuclair, fifteenth ;-_rl of Caithne. , ciuio up for decision. Ihe late Earl of Caithness died possessed of the Stagenhoe Park estates, Hoi tford. hire, and the gift of these in his trust disposition being invalided -y the English Mortmain Act of 18S., the same fell to his next-of-kiu. une-half of the estates wore Hucoeasfully claimed by Sir James _uchan_n, of Craigeud, us lineal descendant of Jauot Lady Buchanan, a d-Ughter of James, twelfth Earl of Caithness. After three > ears' researches the other half was claimed for Mr Murray Macgregor, a great-grandson of the other daughter of the twelfth Earl, Lady Charlotte, who married General Murray Macgregor in 1310. After tion of the evidence and certificates adduced, Mr Justice Wright grauted a decree in favor of the claimant, the case being transferred to Mr Justice Chitty to be conjoined with th it of Sir James Buchanan in an action of secouutuig against Lord Caithness', trustees. This de.i.ion confirms Mr Murray Macgregor as heir-at-law of General Murray Macgregor, in virtue of which, along with Sir Malcolm Macgregor, of Macgregor, he holds the joint nomination of parties to receive the benefits of _ir John Macgregor's bequest."
