The R.M., Mr Turnbull, sat yesterday from 10.30 a m. till nearly 10_p.ni, continuinrr the hearing of the case in which A. Masters claims £100 damages for alleged damage to his hop plants, such damage, he allege., being caused by the borough dramage flowing into his property. Yesterday was the third time the caie has been before the Court. The following witnessesi gave evidence :-John Colling* (Town Clerk, James Gibbs, 13. Whibley, T. ** m ?' J Curtis, A. Leipst, R. W< 11 wood, Arthur _en_edy (surveyor), R. Braithwuite, and IC. Britton. Mr Loughnan reviewed the evidence for the Council, and Mr McLean replied for the plaintiff. It was agreed be- I tweeu the R.M. and counsel that toe arguments relating to the points of law involved should be heard at iNapier this' (Saturday) morning. Mr T. Tanner, in his evidence, which was taken privately, stated that thirty j ears ago the gardens were a series oi lagoons. The Hon. H. K. Taiaroa, M.L.C., moved yesterday at the Maori Parliament that a committee of seventeen iun-b.rn bu formed I to examine into those laws parsed by ihe New Zealand Legislature that are unfavorable to tho Maoris.
