Hawke's Bay Horticultural Society.

The Chrysanthemum and Fruit Show in connoction with the Hawke's Bay Horticultural Society was opened in the Gaiety Theatre this afternoon. The visitor to the show will at once be struok by the splendid variety of chrysanthemums on exhibition, the collection including somo magnificent specimens of this flower. The largest exhibitors are Messrs Anderson, Tiffen, Coleman, and Carr. There is a very good show of dahlias, cf every variety of hue, the principal oxbibitors in these classes being Mrs Close and Mr Tiffen. The pot plants and miscellaneous cut flowers are mostly of a good quality. The fruit clnssee have not filled so well. Some persimmons from the garden of Mr J. H. Coleman will attract attention, while three bunches of the Gross Colmar vine from Mr Waterhouse's hot house at Taradalo are excellent tpecimeiis. Mr Ormond shows six very large cooking pears, remarkable for their size. Some cucumbers from Mr Waterhouse's farm, citrons from Mr Coleman'e garden, pumpkins grown by Mr Tiffen, are all capital exhibits, and the best of their kinds. Mrs Eandall shows some prunes dried in Napier, which have been highly commended by the judges, and Mr Hesebeck has placed on view several varieties of Indian corn. The Show will be open this evening and tomorrow. The judges, Messrs Luxford, Chipping, and .Forrest (for flowers) and Messrs Britten, Piebble, and G. Williane (for fruit) have made the following awards: —

Persimmons (oxtra exhibit) — J. H. Coleman very highly coramonded. Forty-eight chrysanthemums —J. N. Anderson 1, J. H. Coleman, 2, J. T. Oarr highly commended. Twelve incurved— J. H. Ooleman 1. Six incurved—Mrs Richardson 1, J.N. Anderson 2, J. T. Carr highly commended. Three incurved—Mra Richardson 1, J. N, Anderson and H. S. Xiffen highly commended. Three incurved, one variety—Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Richardson 2, Mrs W. 0. Yatee, highly commended. Twelve reflex— J. N. Anderson 1, J. H. Coleman 2. Six reflex—G. B. Sainsbury 1, J. N. Anderson 2. Three reflex, W. C. Tates 1, J. N. Anderson 2. Three reflex, one variety, J. N. Anderson I, Mrs Richardson 2, W. C. Yates and C. B. Hoadley highly commended.
