At tha time of his death laptain Wilson \vp»B 71 years nf ago. On Jhristmaa Day he appeared in his usual good ealth, but durin/f the evening he was seized pith apoplexy, and died next day. He was lorn at Bradford, Yorkshire, In 1817, and vent to sea at au early age, joining the nerchant service. In 1344 the Cape lovernment conferred upon him tha position if Deputy Port Captain at Capetown ; in 855 "he was made Port Captnin. The josition, with tho exception of one at Caliutta, is the only ouo of its kind in existence. Jβ remained in the position for 35 years, ;etiring on a pension. Whilst at the Cape 3aptaia Wilson's dauntless courage was iften. manifested at wrecks, and on one oclasion in 1850 he with his crew was instrunental in saving 120 lives, and he was prolergted by the Capetown folk with a jsrfuifioent cup for his gallantry. He flßted England and the colonies upon his etirement.
