Waste of Water

[to the editor. ]

Sik, —Somo years ago there was just the same complaint about the wells in the outskirts of Christchurch that there is now in Hastings—co many new wells were being sunk that the old ones were giving iv. At that time the wells were allowed to run day and night, as so mauy do now in Hastings, but the Council made a law that compelled people to put taps on their wells and stop the waste of water, and that proved the right remedy. It would bo wise of the Hastings Council to follow tbe same plan and prevent the waste of water that in somo places overfills tbe gutters, overflows the paths, and swamps the road.-lam, &c, * A.-.C.
