A CASE OF INCENDIARISM,

Lvttblton, This day. An enquiry into the firo on the ship Everest on the morning of January 30th wae ouuned at the R M. Court this mornincr before Mr Beetham, K.M. Sergt. O'Mailey conducts, and Mr J. 0 Martin, Crown ProHOCiitor, appeared on behalf of the Crown. The evidence of Captain Hibbert, master, was taken first, and the second officer'B, and that of the watchman on board, some of the crew, and a. member of the Fii-u Prisjade, has also been takeu, which points to the ship having been wilfully act on fire by some of the crew. A hood -urn was due to the crew for wages, and if the fhip was burnt or condemned this would be paid. A tin of kerosene when missed on the day of the fire was partly full but was found after the fare I where the ftro broke out. _ The tin had been cut open. Tho captain noticed a Htron"- smell of kerosene when he went aboard ut 11.45 p.m.. but thought it was from thi; cabin lamp. The fire started at 12.10 ti.iu.
