MANIFESTO FROM THE TRADES
AND LABOR COUNCIL

Wellington, This day. The Trades and Labor Council have drawn up a manifesto to Trade Unionists with regard to the action of the Council in passing a resolution claiming the right tv be consulted in regard to" the selection and appointment of the labor lepresentativcs to the Legislative Cmncil. The manifesto states "that tho resolution upheld tho fundamental principle of Liberalism, riz., tho right of the people to choosa their representatives in Parliament, and the Uouncil contended that as the capitalists have always been_ in the majority in the Legislative Council, the Unionists of Wellington, a= a numerous section of workmen, as well as any other labor organisation, had a right to a voice m the selection of such representatives. The manifesto denies that in claiming that right they were dictating to thfi Government. In what thty had done they had acted earnestly in tin: interest of labor, and according to their jntclligunci-, and th.jr, : .forfc they feared nut the censure of their opponents.
