Hawthorne, re losses consequent on being unable to get men to work on hi contract, No 2, Taupo extension road, and offering to do certain work. —The deposit of £'5 was forfeited, owing to no.lect of contract. —Mr Tanner did not think the Council should gain out of the man's misfortune, and moved that the depOFit be refunded.—The Chairman said Hawthorne's acceptance resulted in a delay of the Taupo works for five or six weeks. Napier-Clive Hoad.—Widen in _ a portion of tbis road between Aivatotoaud Waitangl railway crossing- has commenced as authors l*.d.

Haveloek-Patangata Road. —As inBtructed, I have examined this road between Mr Cooper' turn-off and Patangata. It will require eight culverts and a gang of four men ono month to put this road in decent order for travelling stock und light ■wheel traffic Cost £100. Napier-Patea Bond.—Metal repairs to a portion of this road between Look-out Point and Gentle Annie has made good progress during- the month. Bridget.—l beg to recommend that the Tutaekuri bridge, New Taradale road, be metalled, cost £10. I would recommend the Meanee bridge to he screwed up. 'J he late rain having washed away an open crossing oi) the Hakowai-Rissingtoii road, which "made a deep creek, pending the erection of a bridge culvert I found it necessary to make a temporary crossing to keep the road opeu for traffic. I would recommend that a culvert be erected at this place, cost labor and carriage of timber ; old Tutaekuri bridge timber can be utilized. I be°- to recommend that the approach to firßt'bridge on the Omahu-Ukawa road bo widened and fenced on both sides, cost £10. A special meeting was held at twelve o'clock. Mr Villers moved that the special order merging the Petane Road Board in the County Council be confirmed. Carried — Mr Shrimpton's resolution ru alterations in Slaughterhouse. By-law So. 10, reducing slaughtering sum from £20 to £h>, was carried. JtHCT.LLANEOTJB. With regard to the old Tutaekuri bridge Mr Bennett n.oved that the tender of Glendinning and Griffin for its removal be accepted. —Ml- Ilymcr moved a- an amendment that the tender be not accepted, but that the bridge be tuken do-.vn by the County Council at times when the timber is required —The amendment was carried. Accounts to the amount of £5-11 Vis 4d were passed for payment. Mr Rymer moved that plans and specifications be prepared to widen by ten feet the middle bridge, on Tan-dale road, where more room was required for traffic—Mr Bennett seconded.-Carried. Mr Viltcrs moved that tenders be called for hardware for the County Council. Ho thought the other tradespeople ought to havo a share in the Council's patronage. The value was about £50.— Mr IU mer said a certain amount woutd have to be obtained up-country, as tbe cost of carting picks and shovels would become wry excessive. -Mr Bennett said that tho amount was not worth it, as the nearest store was invariably patronised. He thought it would no better to deal with different firms every six months, which he moved asau amendment — Mr Villers withdrew his motion, and Mr Bennett's resolution was aureed to. Mr Villers moved that the Engineer be instructed to report on the cost of a footpath on tbe \buiiri bridge.—Mr Tanner seconded. —Lost. Mr Bennett moved that £200 be advancod for making a road to the H kauui settlement. In doing so, Mr Bennett said tho amount would be repaid in eleven years. It -was far better for tho Council to grant it than to go to the Government. If the Council refused, the Government would grant the request —Carried. The Chairman was given permission to pay accounts of the Meanee Road Board, which had been merged into the Council. The Council then adjourned.
