Land Board.

The Hawke's Bay Land Board met at 10.30 a.m to-day. Present. —Tho Chief Commissioner, Mr T. Humphries (in the chair), T. Hallett, and W. W. Carlile. COBEKSPONDENCK. From Department of Lands and Survey, notifying appointment of Mr Charles Hall as a member of the Board.—Received. From same, stating the Minister of Lands had approved of thf> recommendation of the Board that the area of the forest reserve at Woodville to be thrown open for selection, should bo restricted to 1200 acres.—Received. From Land Office, Gisborne, recommending for favorable consideration an application by P. F. Kenway to complete purchase of section 28, bluck VIIIa, Waimata, and forwarding report as to improvements, etc. —As improvements had not been carried out according to the Act, the application was refused. From Puketapu Road Board, applying for a certificate undor the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, 1889, that that Board was entitled to receive thirds from certain lands in the Pohui survey district.—Received. From Puketapu Road Board, with reference to expenditure of thirds which aocrue from lands within its district —Granted. From Waimata Road Board, forwarding proposals for expenditure of £44 5s 10d, accrued from Ist November, 1890, to 31st January, 1891.—Approved.

From thi! Crown Lands Ranger, reporting on Mr A. H. Price's application to purchase a email piece of land between his Lambertford property and Mr Alex. Grant's.—The Chairman said there was a difficulty in the way of granting the application, the applicant already owning over 2000 acres of land. —It was decided to write to the applicant asking if he is prepared to sign a declaration prior to taking over the land. From Crown Landa Ranger, reporting as to occupation of section 31, block 4, Woodville, held on perpetual lease by E. A. Haggen, who desired to make it freehold. Improvements had been made on the property. —The applicant is to be allowed to complete purchase. From Baker and Tabuteau, requesting the Board's consent to Mr Richard Skerret being admitted as a co-transferee with Mr W. J. Skerret in the lease of portion of small grazing run No. 43, Arikihi block. —Granted, but residence condition will have to be complied with. From Joseph Pana, requesting that his section 7, block 2, Makaretu, may be revalued.—The Lend Revaluation Act of 1889 does not apply to his case, and the Board had consequently no power to grant his application. From W. W. S. Hales, with reference to non-fulfilment of conditions of leaso of sections 64, 65, block S, Weber.—Six months' extension of time granted for improvements. Chas. Gibson, lessee of section 62, block 1 (Wooodville), John Murray, jun. (Woodville), and James Glass (Ruataniwha), wrote on the same subject.— Extension granted for six months.

From Guy and Dinwiddie, requesting cancellation of application to transfer license to occupy flection 23, block I, Woodville.—A letter was also received from Ellen Looney, requesting refund of £2 10s, fees deposited with tho application —The whole quostion of the section occupied by the Looney'e was considered, and after due consideration, it was decided tlint owing to the difficulty having in a largo measure befin due to ignorance of the law on the part of Mrs Looney, on the balance of instalments due being'paid, and the will being proved, in which Mrs Looney is the sole beneficiary, the grant should bo issued in her name. — Curried. The £2 10a is to be refunded to Mrs Looney. The Chairman reported that the Maharahara Copper Mining Company £16 0s 10d in avrear, with rent of five lu.ses, in block 151 Woodville, and stated they dejirud that tho amount be remitted. Tho works had bean brought to a standstill, but the company desired to be allowed to re.-niiin in possession of the ground for two veara at a nominal rental. Over £5000 had been spent iv (lie locality, and employment hitd been given to v number of men, but the spec had proved unremunerativo. Undur the circumstances tho directors thought tho Bouivl might remit the haifyear's rent now owing.—The Board decided to defer the question until next meeting. George Hall, solector of pastoral run No. 52, was £15 in avrear with his rent due on March Bth, 1891.—T0 be informed that money must bo paid at end of Jim*}, or the penalty of £1 per day will be strictly enforced.

L Patterson, sees. 44 and 48. block 13, Hangaroa. All tho the above transfers were approved of. A. number of applications for land were approved. A number of applications for land were approved, and it was decided to write to a number of selectors calling upon them to make good the deficiency in the value of their improvements. The Board then adjourned.
