The members of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union meet to-night in the Criterion Hotel at half-past seven o'clock. The Pakeha-Maori match, to be played on the Recreation Gruuud on Saturday, will be well worth witnessing, and there should bo a large uttemlauce of the public. Themt.tch has been fixed to start punctually at half-past two o'clock, and players are requested to bear this in mind. All who cannot get away te> play in the matoh are requested to ooramunicate with Mr Logan at once. The play of the various members of the teams, jre might mention; will bo keenly watched in view of the forthcoming trip of a Hawko's Bay representative team to Wellington. Immediately after the match a junior fixture will be got off, which should excite unusual interest, inasmuch as the two teams —Caledonians and Ahuriris—play an excellent game; and, further, that the match is one which was or ered by the Union to be played off, the teams in question having had a dispute regarding the scores when they first met. Both sides are determined to win.
The Dunedin Rugby Union brought to a close last nighfc ita investigation into the charges made in connection with the Kaikorai- Alhambra match. Resolutions were arrived at to the following effect: —" The newspaper statements that the KaikoraiAlhambra match was sold by certain players are not substantiated. Betting among players does exist to some extent. Theevidence implicating playing members off clubs does not justify conviction, though: it raises grave suspicions. Players, and members have not afforded: assistance to the committee, and oner player who might have given valuable assistance refused to appear, and was disqualified. The action of three players of the Kaikorai Club in concerning themselves in the investment of money for non-players was ill-advised, and such conduct will in future be dealt with as personal betting , . Certain evidence laid before the committee can only be met by tho expression of the committee's decision that they consider P. P. Keogh a professional, and that he be suspended during the pleasure of the committee, and that this decision be remitted to the English Union and a copy forwarded to the various Australian unions.
