Last night, on the arrival of the 6" p.m. train from the north at Waipukurau, a man alighted and took a cab to oonvey him to tho hospital. He was able to walk all right, but required to be helped into the cab. On I the way the oabiuan asked him what was the matter with him, to which he' replied that he had been drinking as Te Aute. Oa reaching the hospital he produced a not& from Mr S. Charlton, who has juat taken*. over the hotel at Te Aute, addressed to Dr. Reed, saying that tho bearer, R. Parker, had been kid up at the Maori pah for the last fortnight, and as ho had no friends, would he kindly admit him to the hospital. Dr. Keed was. absent at Waipawa, but Parker was at once assisted to a bed and just as he laid down he died. Information was at onco given to the police, and an investigation will bo made into the case Deceased is suppo-od to be identical with a man whoso best known name is "Dr-nnv brook," who has lived with the Maoris af Te Hauke far some time.
