F.W. WILLIAMS AND KETTLE.

Messrs F. W. Williams and Kettle report as follows :— For our opening wool sales to-day 1220 bales cams forward, of which about ICO bales were unavoidably excluded from tho catalogue through coming to hand too late. To prevent disappointment we must impress upon wool growers tho necessity of wool being to band at least three days prior to tho date of sale, in order that it may be thoroughly examined and catalogued, and ready for inspection by the buyers at least a clear day before sale. Comparod to the phenomenal prices obtained locally at the early sales of last season, values have receeded f rom 12 per cemton fine qualities to 20 per cent on coarse and faulty, in sympathy with tho London market report now current. Vendors as a whole have shown a praiseworthy desire to meet the altered conditions. A few, however, prefer holding for tho January sales rather than accept present valuations. A number of lots were therofore passed in with this view. Scouring parcels realised better prices pro rata than fleece wool, aud almost all sold at full values.

The following are the prices obtained for the several qualities :—Half-bred, S_d to 0: J t d (a well-known brand of extra quality made ; good average crossbred, 7|d to BJd ; ordinary, 6-|-d to 7_d : Lincoln, 6_d to 7J; merino, ordinary 7Jd, light, B|d; Southdown Sd; Shropshire Down, <Sf d; cotty and matted, Gd to 6fd ; clingy, 6_d to 7-Jd ; Romney ram, 7d ; Ist pieces ojd to 6d, 2nd do 31d to o >-d : bellies, to o.Jd ; locks. 2fd to 4|d ; merino do, 4j[d : crutchings. 3d t < .')J-d; scoured crossbred, 9jd; sliped lambs, Djd.
