Tho attention of the Mombers and the General Public is called to somo of the special features connected with this Society, which is the oldest Colonial Institution of its kind, having been established in tho year 1849. Tho results of the business for tho Fortyfirst Yoir, ending 31st December, 18SS), may bo summarised as under : FIRST—The number of tho New Policies issued was 11,GG4. SECOND—The new Assurance business effected was for £3,(379,459. THIRD—Tho New Annual Promium Income amounted to £121,800. FOUliTH—The net increase to tho business, after allowing- for loss of incomo from terminated Policies was represented by 702S Policies, assuring £2,109,199. FIFTH—The operations of tho year raised the annual income of tho Society from I .C1,512,'280 to £1,02.3,185, an inereasoin ! twelve months of ! £112,905 SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased during the year by tho sum of £742,311, equal to 71 per cent, of tbe gross premiums received. SEVENTH—The deaths among livas assured were 019 under 705 policies, causing cluiins upon the Socioty amounting to £299,002, irrespective of Bonus additions, whilo the number expected according to tho Tables used iv estimating ihe liabilities would havo boon 1143, for an amount of £4:f5,970, the mortality experience being thus oxtre-nely fuTorable. EIGHTH—The receipts from interest and rtnta were £51 an amount exceeding tho sum p-iid for the claims by £118,952. NINTH—Tho expenses of Management were only It's per coiit of tho total receipts. TENTH—Tho cash surplus divided for the year 1899 was £12t'>,4 , J4, being at the rate of 41\5 per cent, on the premiums received. 7'ho operations of the Society during tho 41 years of its exhtenoo may be summarised as under— It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717 It has paid to ths representatives of deceased members over £1,000,000 in satisfaction of death and matured claims. It lias divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding rovorsionary additions of over £8,000,000. It has acquired an Accumulated Fund of £9,000,000.
