TOWN EDITION.

Tho last meeting of this session of tho Philosophical Institute will bo held at 8 p.m. this evening.

Thero will be ordnance competition for tho Navals at three o'clock to-morrow afternoon, and class firing for the Volun teers will tako placo at thoTntaekuri rango, commencing at half-past two.

The caso of Robort Holt v. William Bain was heard at the R-M. Court to-day. Mr Dinwiddie appeared for plaintiff and Mr Rhodes for defendant. This was a claim for £23 lis lid, balance of account rendered, but two items wero disputed. After hearing tho evidence the R.M. gave judgment for plaintiff, with costs £■! lis Gd.

The members of tbo Wesleyan Band of Hope hold their usual bi-weekly meeting this evening in the schoolroom. The committee hope to sco a largo number of visitors, as a first-class programme is to oe presented, including songs, recitations, readings, and addresses. It is intended to try and form a cricket club amongst tho junior boys to compete for the medals to bo presented by Mr White.

Tbo attention of tho R.M. was occupied to-day in hearing a native dispute, that of Hamiora Tupea v. Kingata Tohunga, a claim for £100. Mr Dinwiddie appeared for tho plaintiff and Mr E. H Williams for the defoudant. Defendant alleged that in October, 1881, plaintiff agreed to engage bim to keep and tako care of a certain ilock of sheep, for which ho was to pay him one half of the proceeds of tho wool of the said sheep in each year. Defendant received on account of the wool of tho said sheep £00 in ISBS, £100 in 188!), and £55 in 1890, but had paid no part thereof to the plaintiff, who now claimed half of that sum, after abandoning £7 10s. Evidence was taken. The case was proceeding when we went to press.
