Another Maori Arrest.

Auckland. This day,

Tbe whole city was thrown into a stato of excitement again this morning by another of Mr Mitchelson's expeditious against the Maoris. At two o'clock an armed force consisting of Inspector Brohum, Sergts. Gamble and Bernard, twenty constables. Detectives Ohrystal and Edo, Captain Morrison, and thirty-five men of tho permanent force, accompanied by Mr Lewis, Under-Secretary, left by special train for M.-rctroi route for Pukekawa, Tawhiao's settlement on tbo proper left bank of the Waikati) river, the obj.-ct of the expedition being to arrest ,f eri Ivaibiiu, Tawhiao's secretary, who some mouths ago destroyed a trig station in the Upper I hames district, and thus interfered with the surveys which were being carried on by Mr Uheal, Government surveyor. Tho bloclc on which the triur station was destroyed is native land, and outside tho 45,000 acres bunded over to tho Government for advances, but it was necessary that surveys should be made in order to have the boundaries correctly defined, and Mr Cbeal was appointed to superintend the undertaking. Some of the King party wero opposed to tho surveys going on, while other natives were in favor of them. Ultimately, as it wai thought that the mutter was amicably settled, it having been explained that the trig stations were no infringements of their rights, Heri Kaihau and some of Tawhiao's adherents were not satisfied, and Heri Kaihau destroyed or rather took down a trig station. The ironwork ho sent to tho postmaster at Mir.-mda, and ho wrote to Mr Wilkinson, Government Native Agent, staling that he had done the act. A summons was issued, but Kaihau ignor-al it.
