Tho two bandsmen who were sent to prison for non-payment of fines wore liberated at 12.30 this afternoon.
Captain Edwin wired as follows at 12.50 p.m. to-day:-"North to west and southwest gale after ten hours from now. Glass fall again soon."
The Gospel will be preaohed in Forestors Hall, Diokens-street, to-morrow Jevening, (D.V.), at 7 o'clock. All are invited. Subjects of interest to all. No collection.
Wo are requested to oall attention to the extension of the lines of the Free Association of Hawke's Bay, by which men requn - in* employment can register their names, occupations, and addresses, at the office of the Association, and employers by applying at the same office may secure the services they may want.
Mrs Sheath's concert, which takes piace on tho 10th instant, will bo without doubt, judging from the items on tho programme ■nid' tho names of the various performers, tho most attractive yet presented to a Napier audience. The selections have been very carefully made, no less than five operatic choruses, which, given as thoy will be by a picked choir and orchestra of over s -vonty performers, should command a crowded house. The other items we intend to notice lator on. Tho box plan at Jacobs' is filling rapidly, applications as fa- as from Waipawa coming in.
The New Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Agency Company (limited) have received the following cable from their Loudon office, dated 31st October, 1890:—Wool.— Tho Antwerp sales are lower, and Australian has declined |d per lb. there since tho close of the last London sales. Tallow.— Dull of sale, and haß declined 6d per owt since our last report. Hemp,—Market active, and in sympathy with the advance of £4 per ton in Manilla, New Zealand has advanced £2 por ton. Frozen Meat.—The market for mutton is weaker, but better for beef. Quotations are unchanged.
A sitting of the Superior Court of Bankruptcy was held this morning before aitRegistrar Birch, when Mr Cresswell appeared in support of a summons to show cause why Willoughby Brassey, a bankrupt, should not bo allowed out of his estate such maintenance money for the support of himself and his family as 'the Court might direct. Mr McLean apposed on behalf of the Official Assignee (who was present) and arguments ensued. The Registrar offered to adjourn tho oaso. Mr Cresswell declining, the Registrar dismissed the summons, remarking that under all tho circumstances adduced he could not see his way clear to compel the creditors to assist Mr Brassey at present Another summons could, however, be issued on a future occasion, should such a course be deemed desirable.
