Education Board.

The Board met at 10.30 pm. Present: Messrs .1. D. Ormond (in the chair), F. Suttoii, J. W, Carlile. R. Harditig, G. H. Swan, H. Baker, Hon. Captaiu Rimell, and Rev. D. Sidey. CORRESPONDENCE. From Danevirko, asking when grant for needful works would bo available. They also requested the appointment of an additional pupil teacher, and the return of the sewing exhibits. —Mr Sidey thought it a pity that tho holiday timo could not be availed of for improvements. —No funds for improvements. An additional pupil teacher was not required by regulations.—Tho secretary said 131 articles were missing from the Exhibition.

From Frasertown, asking permission to sell teacher's residence.—Offers to be requested and recommendation to be made as to how the money could be bsat applied.

From Hampden, applying for grant. — No funds.

Tho dates of the races were known for months beforehand.—The Inspector said he had had to re-arrange all his north work in consequence of tho holidays. Ho had been troubled for throe weeks. —Mr Harding had intended to have brought up a motion censuring tho luspector for pnttii-g off tho examination on iieoount of races, to which f.ir too much attention was paid in this country. Tho tone was given by the teachers, for he had known country schools -where tho children knew nothing of a race meeting which was taking place a few miles off. Mr Swan withdrew hi» rno*iou, and the following , resolution, moved by Mr Ormond, was carried :—" That Messrs Sntton, Baker, and Carlile be appointed a committee to enquire into tho circumstances under which Mr Anderson sent in his resignation as head toucher of tho Waipuknrau school, and to report whether the interests of the school will bo served bj- his continuance as head muster; and, further, that the allegations contained in Mr Anderson's letter on the examination of the school by the Inspector he also enquired into and reported on by the same committee, and to report to next meeting." The Board then adjourned.
